San Pedro Cemetery

San Pedro Cemetery is a museum located in the city of Medellín, built in 1842 and declared national monument in 1999.

Is known for be the final abode of different characters of the history of Medellín, Antioquia and Colombia, besides its beautiful mausoleums and sculptures.

Many of the characters buried here was influential people in the national politic history like the ex-presidents Mariano Ospina Rodríguez, Carlos E Restrepo and Pedro Nel Ospina. Artists and writers like María Cano, Pedro Nel Gómez, Bernardo Vieco, Jorge Isaacs, Efe Gómez, Ciro Mendía y Fidel Cano.

Carlos Eugenio Restrepo Restrepo was president of Colombia between 1910 and 1914, born on September 12, 1867 and died on July 6, 1937. Worked as rector of the University of Antioquia  since April of 1901 to April of 1902 and was the first antioquian to win the Presidency. 



 Pedro Nel Ignacio Tomás de Villanueva Ospina Vásquez (Bogotá, September 18, 1858, Medellín, July 1, 1927) was a military, political and colombian engineer. President of Colombia between 1922 and 1926. Cofounder with Tulio Ospina of the Escuela Nacional de Minas (now Facultad de Minas de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia Sede Medellín).











Pedro Nel Gómez Agudelo (Anorí, July 4, 1899 - Medellín, June 6, 1984) was an engineer, urban planner, philosopher, Colombian sculptor and one of the most important Latin American muralists of the twentieth century.



Jorge Ricardo Isaacs Ferrer
(Cali, Republic of New Granada, April 1, 1837 - Ibagué, April 17, 1895), was a novelist and colombian poet of the romantic genre. Famous for the ticket of 50000 and his novel "Maria", besides being building inspector, soldier fighter, politician, journalist, diplomat, founder of schools, ethnographic researcher, president of the State of Antioquia, and miner. He lived during the consolidation of the Republic.

Francisco Gómez Agudelo (Fredonia, 1867, 1938), better known as Efe Gómez, was a writer, engineer, miner and Colombian intellectual.  Was included in the group of costumbristas authors of Antioquia, besides Tomas Carrasquilla and Francisco de Paula Rendón.


Pedro Justo Berrio was a lawyer, soldier and colombian politician born in the town of Santa Rosa de Osos in the Province of Antioquia  (Gran Colombia) in 1827, and died in the city of Medellín, capital of the Sovereign State of Antioquia (United States of Colombia) in 1875. Was governor of Antioquia in 1865.
